During this six week class we will explore the basic principles of landscape painting; including composition, value, depth, and color. We will also cover some approaches to getting setup and managing your painting equipment in the field. We will paint directly from life in parks and wild spaces around Eugene, and learn to record some of the subtleties of nature while altering what we see to create compelling images. We will spend a few classes studying trees, fields and hills, water, and clouds before expanding our view to paint complete landscapes. This class will focus on oil painting, but students are welcome to bring any other painting mediums that they have experience working in and would like to try in the field! Personal expression is encouraged, and prior painting experience is preferred.
